E-mail Marketing

There are so many ways in which you can market your product or service; however, you need to be sure that you remain the right side of the law when doing so. Marketing yourself using your website is probably the most efficient way of getting people to see your product, after all, it works for you 24/7, doesn’t ask for holidays and doesn’t call in sick on a Monday morning after a few too many over the weekend!  Having a site is great; the next stage is driving potential clients to see your product which is where it can get a little trickier. One way of driving clients to a website is organically, this is when search engines send you clients and visitors which hopefully will be converted into a profit. Another way of driving people to your websites is via e-mail marketing, whilst this is a relatively economical way of driving traffic, it is one of the riskiest ways of doing so as there are hefty fines for those caught in breach of e-mail marketing laws, in fact; the fine for a serious breach can be as much as £500,000! This year alone (2012) has seen an increase of 43% in the number of complaints received by the ICO (Information Commissioner’s Office) regarding e-mail marketing campaigns and unsolicited e-mails.

Whilst there is no denying that newsletters to subscribers is always a good way of engaging with existing or on-going clients, be very careful before sending e-mails which may be considered unsolicited.

The safest way is to make sure that your site is well optimised and that your clients subscribe to your newsletters as well as giving them the option to opt out/ unsubscribe.
